What is it?
The Marriage Course is a series of seven sessions designed to help any couple strengthen their relationship.
It's a great opportunity to spend time together as a couple looking at the important issues in your marriage.
The Marriage Course is very practical and will help equip you with the tools needed to build a healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime.
Each week you are given the opportunity to enjoy a special meal together and listen to a talk. Then there is plenty of time to discuss the topic as a couple. There is no group work involved at any stage of the course.
Who designed the course?
The Marriage Course was started in 1996 by Nicky and Sila Lee, who are on the staff at Holy Trinity Brompton - the London church that started the Alpha course. A new edition of The Marriage Course was produced in 2009, and it is now being run in 28 countries.
Nicky and Sila Lee have been married for over 20 years and have four children. They have spoken to thousands on the subject of marriage and are the co-authors of The Marriage Book which has sold over 52,000 copies since it was published in 2000. They run The Marriage Course three times a year at Holy Trinity Brompton with around 100 couples on each course.
What's involved
Fantastic Atmosphere – each evening starts with a candlelit dinner at your own romantic table for two, giving you an opportunity to spend time together as a couple. Many couples say it's like having a special date every week.
Practical Talks – that are informative and fun, played on DVD. They include filmed clips of couples sharing their own experiences, and street interviews from around the world.
Coffee and private discussion time as a couple. You'll be given topics to discuss (sometimes with the help of a written exercise). Music is played so you can't hear couples near you, and they can't hear you!
No group work, so relax - you won't have to share anything about your relationship with anyone else.
Homework – at the end of each session you will be given some homework to do together. This will help you to build on what you have learnt, and give you the opportunity to apply it to your relationship. Don't worry - it won't be marked! It isn’t looked at by anyone else and is just for your own benefit.
